Saw my first IRL Model 3. Looks nice. I bet it belongs to one of my coworkers, I will have to ask around.
How often do you get to see your car being driven around? Or sit in the back seats. For me its not very often. its strange but it reminds me it looks GREAT driving around.

Saw one on the highway this morning, looked odd. Like the wheels were to small for it.

Wheels on an SUV should be the minimum size required to clear the brakes.

What is IRL? A coworker is getting a Model 3. I hope she’ll let me drive it. Her dad bought it for her. She’s driving his Model X while he tries out the Model 3.

I’ve gotta say, If nothing else they nailed the color on that Tesla. But I am sucker for blue cars.

Yeah it looks pretty great. Then again I think the Deep Crystal Blue over Parchment Mazda CX5 my mom has looks just as good.

That’s nice too, but just a bit too dark to me. It looks like it could too easily be mistaken for black from some angles.
...And don’t get me started ranting about the lack of colorful cars.
For example here’s a shot of the parking lot where I work. I’ll give you two guesses which car is mine.

I’m going to respectfully disagree. Color of that one notwithstanding, I’ve seen a number of them popping up around here and I think it’s almost as ugly as the X. But, hey, you know what they say about strokes for folks.

One nice thing about living in Portland is that I’ve seen five or six in the last few months. They look great in person, although I still think the taillights look pretty low-rent.

Will you tell me what you think of this item?
https://www.amazon.com/Sunforce-58033-Coleman-Watt-Solar/dp/B004RCST9Q
I sleep with a CPAP device that has a 12VDC/5A power supply. I suspect the actual draw is less than 5A. If I understand the arithmetic involved, an 8-hour night of sleep would require 40 AH.
My theory is that if I bought a 95 AH deep cycle marine battery, I ought to be able to have a good night’s sleep with the CPAP. I’d store the battery in proximity to the solar panel and let the panel tend the battery during long periods of disuse. Also, provident living...
What do you think? (I assume you to have practical experience with this sort of thing...)

I feel you there. I’m still sad that my car isn’t a color. My wife’s car is a great lilac or sky blue color depending on the light(blue in direct sunlight, more purple on a overcast day) and it does make me jealous. But at least my car is grey and not silver or white.

Sorry, I just remembered I never got back on this. Figure 50% collection rates on good solar vs rated. So you you need to replace 40 amps over an 8 hour collection period you are going to need to be getting 5 a/hr on the solar, which means looking at 10 amp rated panels. or about 150 watts of panel.

At what voltage?
12VDC @ 5 AMP is 60 watts, right? Actual use is likely far less, and I will set about measuring it...
I need to do some research.

most solar is 19 volts nominal, but it has to step down to 12-14 volts for charging, so you have to figure 14 volts as a best case. so 140 watts total solar. remember that a 5 amp panel is only really going to average about 2-3 amps in reality.

And that’s a momentary number, right? In other words, a 140-watt draw at a given time?
How many square feet of panel are you talking?
HammerheadFistpunch
> Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo
05/31/2018 at 14:07 | 0 |
right, the rated watt is momentary not a per hour rate. Currently its about 15 watts/sq foot. So 140 watts = 9 square feet.

What I am looking at right now is a 100 watt panel with a built in MPPT controller that has legs and can stand on its own. Then I plan to weld a cradle that will go ontop of the cruiser. The panel will stay down when traveling but I can pop it up on the stands when parked to aim at the sun (pointed in a way that would also make sense for awning deployment). Then I can take it off and bring it camping to trickle the camp battery since it will still be portable.

Correct. Its why I haven’t jumped in just yet. I’ve done lots of research and it unfortunately keeps leading me down a pricey load.

I have a 900-watt Honda generator and a 35-amp battery charger. For provident, I may need to stick with that for now and just buy the battery.

Pure sine?
A combination of the two would work well also. The 35-amp charger for a while and then switch to solar when the battery is closer to charged and is accepting charge more slowly. Along with my generator, I also store around 24 gallons of stabilizer-treated gasoline. And some water and some dehydrated food. I could go a week or two, no problem, and probably sixty days on rations. Gasoline wouldn’t last that long...

Pure sine wave inverter. I know we had to buy a EU2000i genset because my dads breathing device needed pure sine because of its sensitive electronics.

Interesting. Mine has a DC power supply, 12VDC. I was assuming it wasn’t very fancy. The CPAP certainly doesn’t seem very high tech. I’d be running it from the battery at night and charging the battery during the day.
That little suitcase generator will carry the refrigerator and the chest freezer and a fan to stay cool. It says 1Kw, but it’s really 900 watts.
